BookRepublic: What led you to a career in design?
Grace: I was in my first semester at the university as a Masters Student, and I was quite broke with my unending needs. I wanted to get a part-time job, but I knew it could affect my studies. I eventually got one anyway but quit. My boyfriend at the time advised me to take up a skill which could be useful to me and generate income. After thinking for a while, I chose Graphic Design because I hated the stereotype of a woman taking up skills as a caterer, make-up artist or fashion designer. These are great paths, yes. But they are not biologically determined or anything. I must say I find people’s surprise at the fact that I’m a female graphic and web designer incredibly amusing. It does a little something for my ego!
